FL Road Trip Part 2 (Disney Springs, Animal Kingdom, and Resort)

Getting closer...

We made it!  Checked into our room at the Wilderness Lodge!  Kaitlyn thought we were only staying for one night!

Kenzie riding the bus to Disney Springs

Kaitlyn believed her "big" present this year was a trip to the Lego store and dinner at Disney Springs.  Little did she know (insert evil Mom laugh here)

Her present pick...

We had dinner at Art Smith's.  Best Macaroni and Cheese and Mashed Potatoes I have ever had!  We had been promising Kaitlyn all week that we would take her to the Parks next year.  At dinner, we informed her we would not be going to Disney next year and we weren't going to Grandma's tomorrow- because we were staying at Disney and going to the Parks NOW.  She declared us the best parents ever (which lasted about two weeks and the moody teenager is back, haha).

We had to go into the M&M store in honor of Aunt Bev!

I'm not at all obsessed with the Haunted Mansion.  Nope.  Not one bit.  Side note... those fondant hitchhiking ghosts GLOWED in the dark!

Wearing my Haunted Mansion dress... with my Haunted Mansion cake.  And, yes, I shared!

The next part of Kaitlyn's week of birthday surprises- her own Loungefly bag so Mom didn't have to carry her stuff all week.  So, maybe it was actually a present for me?

Our first park day was Animal Kingdom!

We were a bit nervous because the forecast looked HORRIBLE for the day- it was supposed to rain hard with thunderstorms all day.  So we got there early and PRAYED.  It worked out...  it was overcast, but no rain in the morning.  We got to see all the animals on the safari up close and personal since it wasn't stifling hot and humid out!

After the safari, we split up for a bit.  Miss I-Don't-Ever-Want-To-Ride-Everest-Again (stated LAST Disney trip) decided that, yes she did want to go on. Of course, she closed her eyes and asked me to tell her when it was over (sigh)

Then we met Dad and Kenzie at Festival of the Lion King.  Kenzie LOVED it.  She was rocking out in her chair and squealing,  All of the performers made eye contact and smiled directly at her.

Played some drums on the way to lunch.

We always eat at Tusker House when we go to Animal Kingdom, but based on Mr. Linsky's podcast recommendations we switched it up and tried Yak and Yeti.  It was so good!  And, no, I didn't know about the panda on the kids menu before we made the reservations, hahaha.

After lunch, we got in one more safari ride...

And grabbed a Dole Whip for a snack...

Before making haste to the exit...  It was well-timed.  We made it to the car just as the rain started.  And got back to hotel before it really started coming down with thunder and lightning.

We had dinner at the hotel and then explored the resort.  We checked out the geysers. We discovered that they do s'mores over the fire pit every night!  Then we watched the Magic Kingdom Fireworks over the lake and the water parade!
