September 11

This morning we participated in Portland’s memorial march.  The firefighters, police officers, and their families marched from downtown Portland to the the city’s 9/11 memorial where they had a brief service.  For those of you not familiar with Portland, that is a very long walk up a very big hill.  Kaitlyn struggled a bit and took a tumble at one point, but she was very good and quiet.  She did love seeing all the fire trucks.  I’m not sure where Kevin and I went “wrong”, but fire trucks are her obsession, not police cars!

Here are some of the pictures from after the ceremony…

In the afternoon, we went apple picking.  Kaitlyn has been talking about going all week.  She was very excited and kept asking where the apples were.   I will be baking up a storm over the next few weeks…  applesauce, apple cake, apple bread, cinnamon apple muffins, and of course apple pie!  If I get really ambitious I may try making apple butter for the first time…

Kaitlyn’s First Hurricane/ Tropical Storm

We were very lucky.  We did not get hit hard at all.  A lot of leaves off the trees and we lost power for two hours after dinner, but that was it.   One of my co-workers was without power for three days.  Trying to explain losing power to Kaitlyn was a little challenging though.  I finally just told her the lights weren’t working.  So, she told me to go to the store and get a new one.  All in all, it was just a lazy day in our pajamas!
