A Special Treat

Today we were lucky enough to have a special treat!  Every year, the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad in Portland transforms into the Polar Express!  We've never gone before... 1) It books up insanely fast and 2) It's pretty expensive ($50 per ticket!).  But this year, Dunkin Donuts in conjunction with some other sponsors, gifted an entire train full of tickets to the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital and the Miracle Families, so we were able to go for free!

The girls had a blast!  The families all met in the Ocean Gateway Terminal where we were able to meet with Santa and the train conductors, take pictures, and walk around until it was time for train departure.  Kenzie LOVED Santa.  When he came over to talk to her, she held his hands and pulled her chair closer to him.  Then she reached out for a hug!

Once on board the train, we got hot chocolate and cookies.  Kenzie really approved of the cookies.  She kept signing "more" and "my turn", haha!  She also loved when the train started moving!  Once on our way, we were read the story of the Polar Express.  A mile and a half down the track, we arrived at the North Pole where Santa got on board and met with every child!  His elf gave each of the kids a bell with "The Polar Express" engraved on it.  Kenzie loved shaking her bell.  When the elf asked what Kaitlyn wanted for Christmas, Kaitlyn told her Legos!

Then it was time to head the mile and a half back to Portland.  On the way the conductor checked "tickets" and gave each kid a ticket with the first initial of their name hole punched into it.

Kenzie's meeting with Santa was even on the local news story about the train ride for a whole 3 seconds!

I would also like to point out we have apparently turned the corner with Kenzie and hats!  Miss I-Will-Not-Keep-Any-Hat-On-My-Head saw a hat at a local holiday craft fair that she apparently had to have! She pointed it out, we tried it on, and she happily kept it on!  She makes one cute little owl!

The North Pole is a little lighter on the snow than I would have thought...
