Vacation Part 6 (Trip Home)

It was a busy past two weeks...  didn't take long to achieve sleep.  Even Kaitlyn slept in the car, which NEVER happens!

Her shirt says "ready to go road trippin"

Kevin asked Kenzie what she was doing in the car and she replied "I don't know" so clearly.  Kevin and I were floored- another phrase we didn't know that she knew!  She hasn't said it again though.

We stopped for the night in Macon, GA because we wanted to be close for our fun stop the next day... the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga!  Kevin and I had been there once before a few months after we got married and knew the girls would love it.

The butterfly garden was a huge hit too!

The penguins were also a favorite!  Kenzie was thrilled just watching them.  Kaitlyn had fun looking at the color bands and using the chart on the wall to identify which penguin was which.

Kaitlyn is feeling how cold the penguins' water is.

Wiped out again!

The next morning we went to Lookout Mountain which is part of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.  Kaitlyn earned her Jr. Ranger badge.

Then it was time to hit the road, so we'd be ready for our next stop.  Kaitlyn was excited to find "letters to Santa" and a North Pole mailbox in the hotel lobby.

The next morning, we went to Mount Vernon!  Although Kaitlyn enjoyed the visit, she was disappointed to learn that it was privately owned and not a National Park (so no Jr. Ranger badge).  After our traditional tour, we might have taken the National Treasure tour (based on the scenes from the second movie in the series).  What can I say, Kevin knows me too well.  It was fun because we got to go places that are normally locked and not on the traditional tour- like the cellar and the ice house.

George and Martha Washington's graves

All the animals are descendants from the ones Washington owned.

Kenzie fell asleep again!

They are in the middle of an archaeology dig right outside the house!

It's hard to see, but yes, that's a camel!  It's their Christmas Camel.  Apparently, one year George Washington brought home a camel at Christmas to entertain the family.  I now expect Kevin to bring home a panda at Christmas to entertain our family...

We headed north, but stopped at Monocacy National Battlefield so we could check one more National Park off our list!

The kids had no clue our stop for the night was a favorite... Hershey!!!

Kaitlyn is composing a kisses jingle.

The candy house is made out of all Hershey candy!

We are home now and back to our usual school and work routine.  We had an amazing trip and we hope you all enjoyed sharing it with us!
