Anniversary Trip to Philly

On Sunday morning, we went down to Philadelphia for a little anniversary getaway.  Kaitlyn got to stay home with Grammy and Grampy.  We started out at the Museum of Art.  Kevin really like the section with all the armor.Kevin at the Philadelphia Museum of ArtI made it my mission to stick my feet in every fountain in the city.  Kevin also told me I was “crazy” to be wearing a Bruins T-shirt in Philly, but I made it home safely anyway.Cyndi in PhiladelphiaOn the 4th of July, we headed over to Independence Hall to watch the parade.Cyndi and Kevin at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, PAFor lunch, we went to Brauhaus Schmitz.  Best German food I’ve had this side of the Atlantic!  Kevin and I shared currywurst, wienersnitzel, spaetzle, and schwartzwalder kirschtorte.  That night, we watched the “Party on the Parkway”, concert, and fireworks from our hotel balcony.Kevin in PhiladelphiaCyndi in Philadelphia

On Tuesday, we did all of the historical “stuff”.  We started at the Liberty Bell.Cyndi and Kevin at the Liberty Bell, Philadelphia, PAThen went inside Independence Hall.  Then over to the building that housed the first Congress.  I think Kevin and I make good members of Congress… Kevin, First Congress, Philadelphia, PACyndi, First Congress, Philadelphia, PA

We had lunch at City Tavern that afternoon.  It is the oldest restaurant in Philadelphia.  Washington and Jefferson both ate there. Cyndi at City Tavern in Philadelphia, PA

Finally, we visited the U.S. Mint.  Much to our disappointment, we won’t be retiring any time soon though.Kevin at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia, PA

On our anniversary on Wednesday,  we went to the Franklin Institute to see the Mummies of the World exhibit and watch Tornado Alley in Imax.  I even got Kevin to go on the flight simulator with me.  Afterwards we went over to Eastern State Penitentiary.  I’ve been wanting to go there since Jason and Grant investigated it on the TV show, Ghost Hunters.  I didn’t see any ghosts, but it was really cool anyway!Eastern State, Philadelphia, PA Cyndi at Eastern State, Philadelphia, PA

We didn’t have to leave until Thursday afternoon, so we went over to the Natural History Museum in the morning.  I wanted to see the dinosaurs and the butterflies.Cyndi at the Natural History Museum, Philadelphia, PACyndi at Natural History Museum, Philadelphia, PAKevin made a new friend, that didn’t want to leave him…Natural History Museum, Philadelphia, PA Cyndi at the Natural History Museum, Philadelphia, PA

Happy Father's Day!

For Father's Day, we went to lunch at Texas Roadhouse and spent most of the day at Ferry Beach.  It took Kaitlyn a little while to get comfortable enough at the beach to take her cover up off and head out into the water.  Once she got in though, she had a blast jumping up and down and splashing Daddy.  Oma and Opa gave Kaitlyn the adorable little bikini :0)

Old Port Festival

Today we headed off to the Old Port Festival.  It kept to tradition, chilly and rainy.  I think its something like the last 10 of 12 years it has been cold and rainy.

When we first arrived, we started in the kiddie area.  We stopped at each ride and asked Kaitlyn if she was interested, but she wasn’t having any of it!  So, we kept walking.  Then we ran into Curious George, whom Kaitlyn loves.  Well, except for this time anyway.  I guess a man dressed as a life-size George is kind of creepy because when Kaitlyn looked up and saw him standing over her she let out a shrill scream that sent George running and probably rendered everyone in a 5 mile radius completely deaf.  My ears are still ringing.

Apparently Kaitlyn figured if she could survive a life-size George, she could survive anything.  She really loosened up after that and we checked out the old Engine 5, helped Daddy and the fire fighter put out a “fire”, rode the train, and then went on the swinging boat ride.  We topped it all off with lunch and an elephant ear, excuse me, fried dough for the northern folks…
