Massachusetts and the Sea Dogs

Once again I've fallen behind on the blog, but I figured I should catch up before Kenzie's birthday next week.  I can't believe my baby girl is going to be 2!

A few weeks ago, we took a trip down to Massachusetts.  We wanted to take the girls to Lexington and Concord.

 One of our stops was at Orchard House where Louisa May Alcott lived and wrote Little Women.

The next day we toured The Wayside.  Many authors lived there at one time or another including Louisa May Alcott and Nathaniel Hawthorne.

We also visited Author's Ridge at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.  Among others, Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Ralph Waldo Emerson are buried here.

Thursday night we had a special treat at the Sea Dogs game.  The company who owns the box donated several games worth of tickets to the PD.  The dispatchers and their families were given the tickets for Thursday night's game.

In case you can't tell, it was Elvis night at the ballpark.  We couldn't get a picture of Kenzie with Slugger though since she now screams her head off anytime he gets anywhere near her.  She reaches unheard of levels of volume and shrillness.

Today we took the girls to the Maine Wildlife Park.  All the animals there are native to Maine.  They've made a lot of great improvements since the last time we were there as a family.

Kenzie and Kaitlyn both loved the hands on exhibits.  They got to touch different types of fur and make animal tracks in the sand.

Next week Kenzie has a few check-ups with her doctors and we have a special treat planned for her birthday.

4th of July

Kevin had to work a 12 hour shift, so the girls and I spent most of it hanging out at home.  We did stop by the PD to drop off lunch for Kevin and some Stars and Stripes cupcakes for the dispatchers. I was inspired by Pinterest and actually attempted to do something to Kaitlyn's hair other than a ponytail or pigtails.  It's not quite the picture perfect star, but not to bad for an attempt by me.  After we picked Kevin up from the command post, we quickly got out of town before fireworks time. We stopped by Famous Dave's for a quick bite for dinner before heading home for a quiet night of relaxation. 

Whoopie Pie Weekend

A few weekends ago, we headed north for the annual whoopie pie festival.  We were so busy sampling that I didn't get many photos, but I did get this gem of Kenzie...  post festival in a whoopie pie coma!

While in Bangor, I begged Kevin for a stop at Bangor PD for a photo with the Duck of Justice.  Kevin thinks I'm crazy but he humored me.  For those not familiar, Bangor PD's Facebook page is gaining wide spread recognition.  Their public information officer has a great sense f humor which he mixes with important information.  The Duck of Justice has become their unofficial mascot.  It's a stuffed duck that was rescued from the trash bin and jokingly made the mascot.  People have come to love it though and so many people have stopped in looking for pictures with it, that it now has its own visitors log.  If you are on Facebook, I highly recommend following the Bangor PD.  I particularly like Warrant Wednesday...  always good for a laugh!

On the way home from Bangor, we decided to take the scenic route home (Route 1 along the coast) rather than the much faster, but boring I-95.  We stopped and explored Fort Knox for a bit...
