Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend was baseball weekend for us!  Kenzie LOVES Slugger and she gets so excited to go to the games!

Kaitlyn got a ball from one of the Altoona players at Saturday's game!

The nice people who were sitting next to us at the games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were visiting from Denver.  They were there because their son was one of the umpires.  After Kaitlyn got a ball, they got a ball from him to give to Kenzie too!

Sunday's game was Superhero Day at the ballpark.  Some of the superheroes visited!  And anyone who dresses up can be in the pre-game parade around the field.  Kenzie's already a superhero- no costume needed!

 Parade ready!

Walking in the parade with Slugger The Hulk...

Kevin had to work on Memorial Day.  So, Kenzie and I watched Kaitlyn and the Girl Scouts in our town's parade.

Drop off...

Waiting for the parade to start...

Here comes Kaitlyn!

Watching the parade...

The fire trucks are always a favorite with Kenzie!

The parade ends at the Veterans Home where there is a short ceremony.  The Girl Scouts always lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

Afterwards we headed back to Hadlock for the last game of the homestand.  Slugger was wearing his patriotic best too!  (Photo credit to the Sea Dogs courtesy of their Facebook page)

Slugger always comes to see Kenzie!

For our special Memorial Day dessert, I tried out the cake mold I got for my birthday from Uncle Mike and Aunt Diana.  I think it came out really cute!  I surprised the family by secretly slicing it in half and adding a layer of pineapple filling!.  So good!

Kaitlyn's Girl Scout Trip

Kaitlyn recently went on her first overnight trip (that wasn't with family).  Her Girl Scout troop has been saving their cookie money for years for this one big trip.  The troop paid for everything from the transportation to the food.  Nothing was out of pocket for the families.  Thanks to everyone for years of buying/donating cookies!

Ready to go!

On the train to Boston...

Lunch at the Cheesecake Factory...

Duck Tour...

Kaitlyn was excited to steer the Duck again!

Once the Museum of Science was closed for the night, 150 Girl Scouts from around New England were able to check in. They had the run of the place until "lights out" at midnight.  Dinner was in the museum café.

This was the area they got to sleep in!

They were up at 6:45 and had breakfast in the café again.  Then they attended the Planetarium Show and watched an Omni Movie before taking the train back home at lunch time.

This is the patch the girls earned.

What We've Been Up To...

Dustin Pedroia from the Boston Red Sox rehabbed in Portland for several games!

Portland Symphony Orchestra does shows for children periodically to introduce them to the symphony.  The most recent one was the music of Harry Potter!  Coming in costume was encouraged!

Before the show was "Pet an Instrument" where the kids could try out various instruments.  Of the ones Kaitlyn tried, she didn't seem to have a natural aptitude for the woodwinds.  However, she seemed to have a little bit of talent with the viola.  We shall see... next year in school she starts band.  I don't think the strings are an option to choose.  It will be interesting to see what she picks!

They also had "Meet a Conductor" where the conductor taught them how to conduct the orchestra and they got to briefly conduct a couple of the musicians!

When we went shopping the other day, the Wiener-mobile was there!  Kaitlyn got to go inside!

On Mother's Day, Kaitlyn and I did the Sea Dogs Mother's Day 5K.  It was my 4th year and Kaitlyn's 2nd.  By far some of the nicest weather we've had for it!

Afterwards we met Mammy for brunch at the Egg and I.  I got a yummy lobster and spinach omelet!

The girls gave me some beautiful handmade gifts!  Hopefully I can keep the plant alive for awhile!

My special dessert!  A mini cake with chocolate ganache and Bavarian cream!

Stay tuned for a separate blog in the next couple of days documenting Kaitlyn's first big overnight trip.  While she's gone, we went out to lunch with Kenzie.  She was NOT a fan of that hat, but it was too cute to not get a picture!
