Vacation Part 1- London

Since we have so many pictures, I’ve decided to break our vacation blog into a series of blogs.  Otherwise I will be waiting forever and a day for this thing to publish and you all wouldn’t see a vacation blog for weeks!  So…  welcome to part 1 of our vacation!

Here’s Kaitlyn and Kevin watching the planes at Logan…100_1254

Day 1

We got to London early the next afternoon.  I think we did a good job of picking a few highlights to visit during our short stay that combined things I had done before and new things for me.  Obviously everything was new for Kaitlyn and Kevin.

So, after dropping our bags at the hotel, we headed off to our first stop, Westminster Cathedral.Imported Photos 04745

Then it was off to Westminster Abbey.  Here’s Kaitlyn in the Cloister.100_1258Imported Photos 04750

We had an amazing dinner at Porter’s to celebrate our arrival.100_1260100_1261

For dessert, Kevin had the dark chocolate pudding. Imported Photos 04765

I think she liked it!Imported Photos 04767

Next it was off to M&M World.  Kaitlyn was most excited to come here.  I wonder whose great-niece she is?Imported Photos 04768

On the way back to our hotel, we stopped in a little store to buy drinks.  To our surprise we found Maine Root Soda.  It’s an all natural soda that is produced and bottled in Portland.  We’d gone to several different stores in Portland looking for their seasonal Pumpkin Pie soda with no luck.  Where do we find it?  That’s right!  We  had to come all the way to London to find our local brew Smile

Day 2

The next morning we took a tour of the State Rooms in Buckingham Palace.  Unfortunately photos were not allowed.  They did have a special audio tour for kids that Kaitlyn loved and really paid attention to.  When she got to the Throne Room she pointed out the “Queen’s Chair” to us!

In the afternoon, it was off to the Tower of London!Imported Photos 04805100_1264100_1265100_1307100_1283100_1295100_1280

After the Tower, we walked a few blocks over to St. Olave’s Church.  Kevin has been researching his family on Ancestry.com and discovered that one of his ancestors was baptized here in the 1500s!100_1316100_1312

Since Aunt Bev got the M&M World photos, this one’s for Aunt Pam…  Kaitlyn loved her currywurst!Imported Photos 04834

Day 3

We got to Buckingham Palace an hour and a half before the changing of the guard was supposed to start and we were still in the second row of people.  Luckily we picked a spot right next to a very nice lady who stepped back and bunched her kids in closer so Kaitlyn could be right up against the fence. I do not remember the band playing popular songs during the ceremony, but they did this time. I had to laugh when they started playing a song from one of the James Bond movies.Imported Photos 04846

Next we headed over to the Royal Mews.  Once again Kaitlyn loved listening to the kid’s audio guide, but her favorite part was seeing the horses and coloring in the discovery room.Imported Photos 04860Imported Photos 04874

For our final dinner in London, we went to a pub just down the street from our hotel for fish and chips. Imported Photos 04920Imported Photos 04924Imported Photos 04925Imported Photos 04922

First Day of School Part 2

Right after I posted our pictures of Kaitlyn I hopped on Facebook to find that the school had posted some pictures that Kaitlyn was in.  Here they are…

First Day of School

Today was Kaitlyn’s first day of school.  She was very excited.  She woke up at 11:30 last night and asked if it was time to go to school yet.  Um, NO!

Here’s Kaitlyn lined up and ready to go in with some of her classmates.  The jumper and shorts/polo shirt uniform is optional for Pre-K.  They actually recommend that the Pre-K kids just wear the gym uniform (which is what Kaitlyn is wearing) every day.  So next year she will be in the cute jumper!Imported Photos 04740Imported Photos 04741

I’m not sure who was more excited about finding these for Kaitlyn’s lunch… me or her!Imported Photos 04742

When she got home this afternoon she was pretty worn out, but we did manage to get some details of her day out of her…

*She had a fire drill.

*She sat next to Jonah in class and at lunch and played with him on the playground.  (Jonah went to Kaitlyn’s old day care with her.  I’m glad she knew someone coming into Holy Cross, but I’m really hoping tomorrow she will branch out a bit and play with some of the other kids a bit more)

*She went to the library.

*She sang songs and met the music teacher.

*She drew a picture, but “I’m not telling you what”.  (Little snot, I can’t wait til she’s a teenager Smile)

*She can’t wait to go back tomorrow!

Funtown/ Splashtown

We had some free passes for Funtown/ Splashtown so we took Kaitlyn the other weekend.  She loved it! Besides the typical kiddie rides, she decided she wanted to try some bigger rides.  So despite my loathing of the bumper cars, I took her on them.  I still have the huge bruise on my knee to prove it.  She also wanted to try the Tilt-o-Whirl.  Yeah, she liked that for about 2 seconds.  I spent the entire ride telling her it was ok, it was almost over, close your eyes if you don’t like it… all the while holding her close and praying she wasn’t feeling sick.  Turns out it doesn’t make her sick she just doesn’t like how fast it goes.  Upside…  the Tilt-o-Whirl meant I didn’t have to ride the teacups with her Smile!

Let me just say…  the water was a tad chilly here!Imported Photos 04721Imported Photos 04723In case you can’t tell Kaitlyn is cold!

Imported Photos 04724Kaitlyn also played the “pick a duck” carnival game.  Figured for two bucks it wasn’t bad since everyone was guaranteed a prize, even if it was just the rubber duck.  Not Kaitlyn though…  she won the big prize!

Fun Day Out

A couple weeks ago, we took Kaitlyn mini-golfing.  Although it’s been a few months, she still cheats Smile!

Later that night, we went to the annual street fair at St. Peter’s.  We’ve been going since before Kaitlyn was born!

I swear this slice of pizza was about the size of her head and she finished all but 2 or 3 bites!Imported Photos 04690
